A Cristiano
Ronaldo hat-trick sent Real Madrid into the Champions League semi-final
as Wolfsburg wilted despite taking a 2-0 lead into the game.
The
Portuguese has 46 goals this season but none were more important than
these three taking him to 16 Champions League goals this year and
putting the Spanish side in the last four for the sixth year running.
He
had dragged his team into a two-goal lead in the first half but
frustration was creeping in when on 76 minutes Luka Modric charged at
the Wolfsburg defence and won a free-kick. Ronaldo sent it past Diego
Benaglio from 30 yards out and brought the house down. He has so often
been under-appreciated at the Santiago Bernabeu but even by his high
standards this one man show was something extraordinary and will go down
as one of the greatest individual performances in a Real Madrid shirt.
